Paint Lesson 3
Using the eraser tool, selecting areas, and layers
Part I.
Open Paint.Net
Creat a new image
Use the paint can to fill it with a solid blue color
Copy the photo from below and paste as a new image
Using one of the selection tools, select around the characters in the picture
Choose Edit - Copy
Click on the blue photo to make it current
Choose Edit - Paste as new layer
At this point make sure the layer window is open. It should contain two layers for the current work - 1 that is just blue and 1 with a picture in itClick on the eraser tool
Erase sections of the picture
When you are content with the image choose Merge Layer Down from the layer window or the layers toolbox
*** Save the picture as hoops1.jpg in your x-drive folder - be sure to change the file type to .jpg
It may ask you about combining the layers - go ahead and say yes - the just presses all the layers together to make one picture
The end result should look something like this:
Part II.


Copy the Sandwich Boardwalk picture from above into Paint.Net - paste it as a new image
Copy the Lime Kitty picture from above and Paste as a New Layer
Resize the cat picture so it is much smaller and place the kitten somewhere in the rose bushes
Now use the eraser button to clear the background from the kitty picture - this should allow the picture underneath to show through
Zoom in and change brush sizes when working in detail

Now go ahead and add more items to the picture. Your goal is to make them look as natural as possible :)
*** Save your final image project as boardwalk_practice.jpg in your comp tech folder
